A mind for science, a heart for people
Sarah George, now a recruitment manager for our pharmaceutical recruiters, first joined Hudson RPO in 2012.
But she wasn’t always based in EMEA, having first joined our team in Sydney, Australia, as Principal Recruiter working onsite at Sanofi.
Hi Sarah. Thanks for chatting with us — it’s lovely to hear an Aussie accent in the EMEA team. What led you to Hudson RPO in London?
Hudson RPO headhunted me for my strong pharma recruitment experience, in part because I had previously worked with the biggest pharma recruitment company in Australia. But my connection to Hudson RPO began even earlier. Before moving into the pharma space, I also worked with Hudson agency business from 2002 to 2004, as a recruiter on the permanent desk.
I started as one of our senior pharmaceutical recruiters and was soon promoted to Principal Consultant on the Sanofi account. In 2016, I moved from Australia to the UK, serving as a project manager for UCB.
How has your role changed since joining Hudson RPO?
In November of 2017, I transferred to the Eli Lilly account, having first joined the presentation team in pitching for the account.
Tell us more about your current role. What are your responsibilities?
I manage recruitment in the UK and the Nordics for Eli Lilly. I’m a line manager for three colleagues and help deliver full end-to-end recruitment.
I get to dig into a real variety of opportunities, including educating stakeholders on how to get the most from social media. Plus, I get to help people on both sides of the table polish their interviewing skills.
My work has always placed me in a highly scientific and technical space. But you also need to be able to relate to the person you’re dealing with, in that moment, which calls for a deeply empathetic and adaptable approach.
What are your areas of expertise within pharma and life sciences recruitment?
I offer recruitment knowledge across a range of scientific industries, including pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, animal health, and complementary medicines.
So, you’ve been recruiting in the pharmaceutical space since 2005. What motivated you to get into this industry?
I come from a family of doctors, so healthcare is in my genes.
That’s fantastic. And what do you think are the best points about working here?
We’ve got a great company culture, inspiring leaders, and a healthy pipeline. Strong client relationships and a good reputation in the market, coupled with the possibility for global mobility, make this an excellent place to grow your career.
Perhaps it goes without saying that I really enjoy the people here and my client. I embrace my future opportunities with Hudson RPO.
Wonderful! Thanks for sharing your story, Sarah, and thanks for helping make Hudson RPO a welcoming team.
